This is contained in findings of a study looking at agriculture and trade in selected African countries that CUTS is working on with other international organizations such as the World Trade Organizations (WTO).

And Officiating at the launch of this study in Geneva Switzerland, WTO Director General Pascal Lamy said the study was timely and gives the wealth to work with especially in the stalled negotiation on agriculture under the Doha Development Agenda (DDA).

He said agriculture needs to become more efficient and to attain that specialization should be discovered.

And commenting on the Geneva developments CUTS international Zambia acting country coordinator Simon Ng’ona who attended the study report dissemination has told MUVI TV business; that the Zambian Agriculture sector suffers from lack of competitiveness.

Mr. Ng’ona has said the agriculture sector is vital for the livelihood of most Zambia which he says has a comparative advantage in the region despite being landlocked.

He stressed the need for the country to instead have complimenting policies that could lead to high productivity and promote trade.
