Pradeep S Mehta - Chairman

Mr. Pradeep S Mehta is the founder Secretary General of the Jaipur-based Consumer Unity & Trust Society (CUTS International). He serves on several policy-making bodies of the Government of India and Inter Governmental Organisations related to trade, investment, competition, environment and consumer affairs. In 2012, he was appointed a member of the WTO Director General's Panel of WTO on Defining the Future of Trade, and was also an NGO Adviser to the WTO Director General (2002-2005).

Bipul Chatterjee - Treasurer

Bipul Chatterjee is Deputy Executive Director of CUTS International and Head of the CUTS Centre for International Trade, Economics and Environment. He is an Indian economist with 20 years of experience on issues related to international trade and development, and specialises in the political economy of trade and economic policy reforms, particularly pro-poor aspects of reforms. Prior to joining CUTS International, he worked at several economic policy think tanks in New Delhi such as National Council for Applied Economic Research, and Institute for Economic Growth.


Khalil Hamdani

Khalil Hamdani is the former Director of UNCTAD's Division on Investment, Technology and Enterprise Development. He has worked in the field of foreign investment for the past 20 years, including overseeing investment advisory assistance to developing countries, and the UNCTAD programme on investment policy reviews.


Prof. Lichia Yiu Saner

Lichia Yiu Saner is President of the Centre for Socio-Eco-Nomic Development based in Geneva, Switzerland. She has over twenty years of experience in consulting for governments, international organisations, multinational companies, and non-governmental organisations worldwide on issues pertaining to education policy, national competitiveness, skill development and sustainable development. Born in Taiwan, Ms Yiu Saner holds a doctorate from Indiana University.


Nazha Benabbes Taarji-Aschenbrenner

Nazha Benabbes Taarji-Aschenbrenner is the former Head of the Investment Capacity-Building Branch in the UNCTAD Division on Investment & Enterprise. She worked extensively on investment promotion and enterprise development issues. She is the former Director of AIM Congress in Dubai-UAE. She currently delivers FDI and international economic institutions courses at the GDUFS Faculty of Economics and Trade in Guangzhou-China.


Jas Bagri

Jas Bagri has extensive financial experience gained in both the corporate world and in the not-for-profit sectors. Jas qualified as a chartered accountant in the United Kingdom whilst working at PwC. After completing his MBA at Durham University Business School he worked extensively in the not for profit sector. He worked as a senior internal auditor for the Red Cross with assignments in locations such as Liberia and North Korea before becoming the Chief Financial Officer at a leading nutrition-based organization in Geneva. His corporate experience ranges from financial accounting at a NASDAQ listed company to working in the family office of a Swiss private bank, where he was responsible for wealth management. Jas is currently working for a venture capital firm in London and as consultant for a number of non profits in Geneva.


Manuela Tortora

Manuela Tortora is the former Head of Technical Cooperation at UNCTAD. She holds a Master in Political Science and International Relations (1974) and a PhD in International Organisations (1980) at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva. She worked in the areas of international trade and economic negotiations, economic development policies and development cooperation. She was a career diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, member of the Executive Board of the World Bank in Washington, D.C., and she held senior positions in Latin American economic secretariats, before joining UNCTAD in 1999 as Head of the Commercial Diplomacy Programme. She was Senior Consultant at Swiss Economic Cooperation (SECO) and at the WTO-UN International Trade Center. She was Professor of International Economic Issues at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and the Academic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas. Since 2002, she is Visiting Professor of International Relations and International Cooperation at the Catholic University of Milan, Italy. She is Vice President of Greycells, the Association of Former International Civil Servants for Development.


Marit van Strien

Marit van Strien has been working at high-level positions in the area of vaccination and immunization projects for over 30 years, prior to which she worked for the United Nations and the European Union on emergency humanitarian aid programs. She currently works as Senior Immunization Technical Advisor for USAID’s Vaccine Access and Delivery Initiative, a US government Project to bring more than 1 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the least developed nations on the planet.

The Stakeholder Forum monitors the activities of CUTS International Geneva and offers advice to the Executive Committee and General Assembly.

Current membership of this forum includes 21 representatives of inter-governmental organisations, non-governmental organisations, developing and developed country missions in Geneva, relevant government agencies in capitals, academics, and the media. The Forum is due to be reconstituted in 2014.

The Secretariat is managed by the Executive Director of CUTS International Geneva. The duties of the Executive Director include the preparation of annual programme of work for approval by the Executive Committee, the management of CUTS International Geneva in accordance with the administrative and financial rules, and the implementation of the decisions of the General Assembly and the Executive Committee.


Funding and Audit

CUTS International, Geneva receives funding from a range of donors, including government agencies, multilateral institutions and foundations. Funding may be unrestricted or directed to specific projects or programmes.

Our financial management systems are robust and have handled multi-million US Dollar projects. Our accounts are audited annually by an independent auditor affiliated to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), and special project audits are also undertaken when required.


Policies and Rules

We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency and accountability to both our beneficiaries and donors. This is why we have adopted policies and rules on procurement, finance and accounting, fraud prevention, donor-recipient relationship and service rules.
