Nexus between biofuel production, food security, and trade

The recent rise in food prices continues to pose a major concern for many countries, especially the net food importers and consumers. According to a recent Oxfam report “Our Land, Our Lives”, in Africa alone, an area equivalent to the size of Kenya has been sold off to international investors over the past decade in order to facilitate growing of bio fuel and other commercial crops, raising concerns with regard to food security in these countries.
