This national seminar was organised under the Trade and Investment Advocacy Fund (TAF2+) WTO Umbrella Grant Project, in order to present the preliminary findings of a study on the implications of the Joint Statement on Electronic Commerce for Guyana. The workshop allowed stakeholder consultations on the early draft of the study, and collected feedback from key stakeholders for the purpose of enriching and validating the insights.
Research presented on the National Study consisted in, inter alia: (i) Undertaking a situational analysis of the economic, social and policy dimensions of E-commerce in Guyana; (ii) Assessing how Guyana’s domestic E-commerce legal and regulatory frameworks compares to the emerging WTO E-commerce JSI framework; (iii) Analysing the potential implications of the WTO E-commerce JSI for the country; and (iv) Providing recommendations of national strategies and negotiating positions in relation to the E-commerce JSI.
The Trade and Investment Advocacy Fund (TAF2+) WTO Umbrella Grant Project aims to strengthen the capacity of developing and least developed country (LDC) member delegations in Geneva and in capitals, as they determine their level of engagement, strategy and approach to the WTO Joint Statement Initiatives (JSI) on e-commerce, investment facilitation for development and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), respectively.
