agro-processing for East Africa

A Climate-Smart Policy Framework For Tanzania’s Agro-Industry

In Tanzania, the many problems of poverty, low productivity, inadequate infrastructure, and poorly integrated markets, are exacerbated by an under-developed agro-industrial sector.

Policies such as the agricultural marketing policy and the industrial development policy have been developed to support agro-processing development. However, they do not fully address the linkages existing between agro-industry, trade and climate change. In absence of holistic policies and efficient collaboration between relevant public and private stakeholders, Tanzanian agro-industrial development may fumble.
