Environmental Protection: What Roles for Local Governments and Communities? (Swahili)

Dec. 15, 2014.At Uplands Studio Radio, Dr Oswald Mashindano of ESRF Mr. Ahmad Maguo, Head of Land and Natural resources Department in Njombe District Council, call for the Central Government to give more authority to the Local government authorities to implement their set priorities according to their District Development Plans. They argue that this can be made possible by implementing The Government’s policy on decentralization by devolution that was promulgated in the 1998 Policy Paper on Local Government Reform. The local communities were also urged to collectively protect their environment and engage in production of high value crops such as horticulture crops which yield higher returns and save the environment. > Watch video...

KTN Kenya - Farming affected by climate change

Jan. 28, 2014. Inadequate and inaccurate information from the country's metrological department has been blamed for the declining productivity in Kenya's bread basket. A group of scientists calling themselves the "consumer unit and trust society" are now warning of an imminent reduction in maize productivity by up to ten million bags this year following the lack of timely weather information to farmers.
